Plants/Sun

Question
Greetings from San Diego!  My girlfriend and I are adding new plants to our porch.  We have an area that is facing west and receives a great deal of afternoon sun.  We would like to grow plants (hanging) in this area...successfully.  What plants do you prefer that can grow and prosper in the afternoon sun?

Answer
Hi Noel,
Most plants that are good for hanging baskets should do well in the afternoon sun. It would be best if the area is somewhat in the shade so that the plants get plenty of light but little direct sunlight.
Foliage plants that would be good are Ivy, spider plants and creeping Charlie. If you have an area of heavy shade then pothos and philodendrons will work well.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions or need additional information please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks
Tracy
