Mass Cane Floor Plant (a.k.a corn stalk)

Question
We have a corn stalk plant and we sat it outside and the wind messed it up pretty badly and broke some of the leaves and now they are limp. I was wondering if we could cut those leaves and another one would grow back. Also, How do you know if you need to pot your plant in a bigger pot? Thanks for your time and knowledge.

Answer
Ana,

It only need repotted if roots are coming out of the bottom of the pot and if you remove the plant from the pot you only see roots and no soil. Also it drys out in a day. You should only repot house plants between april 1st and july 15th.  And you should only repot if you want the plant to grow larger.

As for the damaged leaves, no, they wonn't grow back if you cut just the leaf off. You can cut the entire stalk off at the point the leaves are damaged and the plant will grow a whole new to. Corn plants or any other dracaenas should never go outdoors.

Good luck.
