Corn Cane Plant

Question
I have 2 corn cane plants that I purchase in 2006, growing very well. About 2 weeks ago I notice a different leaf coming out of the top, and then I notice that it had flowers on the branch, it kinda look like a ball and then a bunch of little blooms came out and then I started to smell this real sweet fragrance and it was coming out of the flower. I looked on line to see if I could find something about the corn cane plant having blooms on it but could not. So I want to know is this a rare thing to happen.

Answer
Susan,

It is not rare but it does require perfect conditions. If you go to Google and put in Dracaena Fragrans blooms you will find several articles and if you click on images you will find severaal pictures of blooming plants. It can bloom every 2 years or so if you do not repot it and you fertilize it with a blooming plant fertilizer monthly. The plant prefers to be slightly rootbound or it will not bloom. Your blooming plant does indicate you have done a great job growing it. Congratulations!!
