whats the proper care for a spineless yucca

Question
I have a yucca in my livingroom which faces east and would like to know what is required to care for this plant.  I do place it outdoors when the weather permits (spring thru summer)yet am clueless to indoor care for this plant.
I am interested in the basics such as how much water does it require, how much light, what temps are appropriate,etc..
Also One of the canes has green leaves yet they are drooping just a bit,not dying as they are still quite green and firm just not as erect as the other cane.  Is that normal or is there a problem?
Thank you.
Dwight

Answer
for your potted plants water by weight. put a saucer under the pot. water and let the plant sit in the excess water for 5-10 minutes. after that time pour off any excess water in the saucer. pick up the pot. it should feel heavy. don't water again until it feels considerably lighter in weight. outdoors check the potted plants everyday(some types may only need watering every 2nd or 3rd day). indoor plants can go 3-10 days between waterings. yuccas can go even longer.
it's not as simple as "water everyday or once a week". each type plant has its own watering requirements. watering frequency depends on many factors(sun exposure, type of plant, wind, day temps, indoors VS outdoor location, etc.).
tropical plants will normally take temps down to 50 degrees w/out showing any negative effects. most tropicals are grown under shade cloth. direct(other than morning) sun lite will burn foliage.
drooping foliage could be caused by many factors(usually improper watering - #1).
get to a local garden center/nursery and quiz them on yuccas in your area. i'm in southern NJ.
good luck
