ponytail plant pot

Question
My ponytail palm plant is small in size, I put it in a 8" pot. Is that to large a pot for a small plant? How fast do they grow? Thank You, Sandy

Answer
Sandy,

Yes that is too large.  It should start out in a 4 inch pot and nolt be moved to a 6 inch one until the bulb of the plant is almost filling the pot.  Then when it fills the 6" pot nearly full move it to an 8 inch pot. Continue moving it to a pot 2 inches larger than the old pot whenbever the bulb nearly fills the old pot. This plant loves the sun and needs to be in the sunniest location possible. It loves to be outside in full sun during the summer as long as the lowest night temperature is above 50 degrees.

Good luck.
Darlene
