what kind of plant do i have

Question
Hello, my friends mother gave me a house plant and she didn't know what it was and I don't have a clue as to how to take care of it right now the plant is small it has leaves that are shaped like a spade on a card deck the leaves are also a very light great and darker around the edges. "mother" said that these plants vine out and that they are very hard to kill she said that if you break off a piece that if you put it back in the soil it will regenerate.  I would really like to know what it is and also what kind of light it should be in and watering patterns. thank you so much

Answer
Hi Heather,

I believe your mystery plant is an Oxalis. It is sometimes called shamrock. There are a number of different varieties of Oxalis and their appearance (color) and culture requirements vary.

Do an image search under Oxalis and see if you can identify yours. When you confirm its identity, let me know and I will provide care instructions for you.

If Oxalis is NOT what you have, let me know how yours differs or, even better, send a photo to my address below so I can ID it for you.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
