Repotted dracaena marginata

Question
Hello Darlene.  My Dracaena Marginata looked in good health before I repotted - not a droop anywhere.  But now, it is leaning and drooping!
I will move it to an area with more light but do you think it has a chance or does it sound too far gone from its traumatic experience? I mostly trimmed the root ball from the bottom with just a little modification on the side.  Thanks for your help.

Question -
Repotted, two weeks ago, a three stem, three foot dracaena into a l6" terra cotta clay pot from same size plastic pot.  Used top potting soil, trimmed back root ball, water it using water meter, have not fertilized it yet but it is still drooping and some leaves have yellowed and dropped.  When, and if, should I expect better results.  It is in the same corner but there is not much light and no sun to speak of.  Thank you.  Plant is about three years old and city water is used.

Jean,

Hoseplants should be repoted betwen April 15th and July 15th. This is a bit late in the year as light is dwindling. Was it drooping before you repotted? How much light is it getting?  It would be best with very bright light or even outdoors in a shady location. City  water is not good for any dracaena, either allow it to sit in an open bucket for 48 hours or use distilled water. Make sure it is drying out well between each watering and never allow it to sit for more than an hour with water in it's drain tray after watering it. You have shocked it by repotting it. It will recupeerate if you give it more light but it will take time. If you have more questions let me know if it was drooping before you repotted it. Good luck.

Answer
Janet,

It has a good chance and will perk up but it will take some time.  Stop with the city water. Since it is leaning you need to push the soil down all the way around the root ball until the soil feels firm. Add more soil and keep firming it up until the pot is full. I suspect air pockets in the soil is at least part of the problem.

Water it well when you water but don't leave any water in the drain tray an hour after you water it. Then do not water again until it is very dry and light weight. In the summer mine gets watered weekly, in the winter it getts watered every 2-3 weeks.

Good luck.

Darlene
