Plant that loves sun- indoors

Question
Hello,
I need a suggestion please. My living room faces NW but it has 8' X 14' windows and four overhead sunlights. This room has high ceilings and is quite large. I am looking for a plant that will be the focal point of the room. Placement is in the center of the windows, between two arm chairs. It will sit in a raised urn. My thought as ti size is approx 2' high by 2' wide ( loose suggestion).I would like something that has some color if possible, but the decor is mostly asian. Any suggestions? I have tried several already but the leaves couldn't handle the sun. All suggestions most welcome. Thank you for your time, I really appreciate it.

Answer
Gail,

I wish I knew what your had tried, do you want tall or short. A variegated ficus tree would do well or a variegated schefflera. A blooming hibiscus would do well there if there is a lot of sun from the skylights.  An oriental looking plant would be a tall bamboo palm, they are tall and narrow but it might not like that much sun. Make sure you put it in a pot inside the urn and be very careful not to overwater. Most plants hate sitting in a pot full of water. They will rott easily sitting in a swamp. If you have more questions write again. Good luck,

Darlene
