Dwarf Banana Plant

Question
How often and when should I re-pot my dwarf banana plant - it is indoors always as I don't have a place to put it that it won't burn from direct sun.  Currently 2 separate stalks approx 18" tall are doing very well in a 10" ceramic pot.  My goal is to get this to approx 4-5 ft tall.

Thanks!

Answer
Dawn,

Repot it once a year in the spring. Move it to a 14 inch pot and make sure it is a pot with a drainage hole and a drain tray under it so it doees not accumulate a lot of water in the bottom of the pot and rot the roots. It would be much happier outside in the summer if at all possible. On the north side of the house close to the house it should be fine or on the east side where it gets morning sun and for the first few of weeks and drape 3 layers of cheese cloth over it for shade. Each week remove one layer and it will gradually get used to more sun and not burn. In the south all bananas are grown outdoors in full sun. They can take the sun, they just have to get used to it slowly and when you don't have shade the above instructions are the  way to go. Good luck.
