my house plant problem!!!

Question
I have 2-questions please,
1~my wandering jew was in a hanging pot & it was beautiful, seemed like a few days later, it was all dried & dead except the ends, I clipped them & put them in h2o.  When they got roots, I re-planted, same thing happened.  It is back in h2o again & it looks pretty rough.  Any advise?  2~ I have a ponytail plant & the trunk is mushy in 1- place.  should I re-pot or let dry & then re-pot w/ sand in the soil?  ~HELP DARLENE HELP~

Answer
Angelina,

Your wandering jew needs lots of sun. When you have it in the hanging basket I suspect it is not hnging close enough to the window and the curtain or blinds may be blocking the sun. When you put the cuttings in water you set them on a window sill where they get plenty of sun. You have to figure out how to give it more sun in the hanging basket and it will be fine.

The pony tail palm needs to dry out and be treated like a cactus. Repotting it right now will put it in shock and destroy a lot of roots, so don't. But you do need to dry it out as quickly as possible. Then you should put the plant in a loation it will get full sun from dawn to dusk with no drapes or blinds blocking the window. It loves and needs as much sun as possible or it will die. Then you should only be watering it when it has been bone dry for at least 4 days and feels light weight when picked up. During the winter you will probably only need to water it once every 2-3 weeks. After April 15th you can repot it into the same pot but a mix of 2 parts potting soil and 3 parts sand. If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck.

Darlene
