Sick orchid & unknown plant

Question
Good afternoon Will:

After a period of good growth, my 2 year old orchid's leaves keep turning
yellow and falling off.  It is in a northwestern window, behind my kitchen sink.
I am not sure how to save it and would appreciate any help you can offer.

I have an unknown plant that was my late mother in law's.  I think it may be in
the ponytail plant family.  I am afraid I may have over-watered it and am
unsure how to save it. (It also appears to have fungi gnats.)  I have pictures I'd
like to send for identification and diagnosis, please.

Thank you, in advance, for your assistance,
Carmela

Answer
Hi Carmela,

There are thousands of different kinds of Orchid and they have different requirements. I will need a photo of yours, including its pot, to be able to help you. It would also help if you could tell me what kind of potting mix it is in, when it was last repotted, and how long you have had it.

Likewise, please send me a photo of your other plant.

Fungus gnats are usually an indication of soil that is staying too moist and/or roots that are rotting.

I look forward to your reply.
