Rebound from a Scheffelera Break

Question
Part of a scheffelera plant broke off (long stem with seven leaves)in our office. I would like to save the stem and start a new plant. How can I go about this? If I put it in a small cup of water will roots sprout? Please advise.

Answer
Hello Charlie,

Scheffeleras root very easily from stem cuttings. Take the stem and place it in moist potting soil. Keep the soil slightly moist and in a warm place out of direct sunlight. A rooting hormone can be used to insure it will take root but it isn't necessary. Within a month or so it should be well on its way. If you have any more questions feel free to do a follow up.

Good Luck,
Justin
