bamboo plant from Madagascar

Question
I recently inherited a Bamboo plant from my Mom who passed away in April.
It was given to her by a mutual friend who is from Madagascar.  Her Mother
took the plant from Madagascar to Paris when they moved years and years
ago due to a political upheavel.  The "mother plant" has had many pieces
taken from it and to my knowledge there are 3 here in my home town in
Arizona.  The daughter of the "mother plants" owner, her sister in law and my
Mom.  All I know is that it is a bamboo and it was native to Madagascar.  Do
you know of any Bamboo plants native to that are and if so can you tell me
how to care for it.

Answer
Carolyn,

The Madagascar Bamboo that I have been able to find on the internet is a large size bamboo that Lemurs are raised in and on. Is yours a larger bamboo? are you growing it in pots or in the ground? Bamboo likes lots of sun, it does not like to be constantly wet, water it well then do not water it again until it is dry. Madagascar is a fairly tropical area so the heat of Arizona should not bother it. If you are growing it in the ground or plan to email me back on my personal email and we will discuss that, you have to be very careful with bamboo because it spreads very easily. My personal email is [email protected]   Good luck.
