cactus soil for houseplants

Question
I accidentally potted a new houseplant of mine with cactus/succulent soil. I was afraid to shock to new plant by changing it. Should I be concerned about this? What is the big different between regular potting soil and cactus soil? Thanks.

Answer
Tara,

It depends on what kind of houseplant it is. Most plants it will not matter. If it is an african violet it will. Cactus soil is sandier for better drainage and it is also more alkaline because of the sand. Some plants need acidic soil. What kind of plant was it? Then I can tell you if it is a problem or not.
