getting bromliades to rebloom

Question
I have a few bromeliads all which have bloomed and then the flower has died. I can not get them to re bloom for the life of me. The 2 that I really want to bloom again are the Pineapple plant and my silver vase "primera" they both have babies growing but no flowers. Is there anything I can do to get them to re bloom?

Answer
Hello LeeAnn,

I'm sorry to say that your Pineapple and Silver Vase plant(Aechmea fasciata) aren't going to bloom again. Bromeliads are monocarpic, which basically means that after they bloom they die. It could take up to a year for the mother plant to finally die but theres nothing that can be done to stop it. The good news is that in a couple of years you'll have more blooms than you know what to do with once all the pups reach maturity. These plants have a way of sneaking up on you and before you know it you're begging friends and relatives to take a few dozen off your hands.

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

Justin
