Getting Hydrangas to bloom

Question
Last spring/summer our hydrangas grew big and green after being pruned back in late fall, but they did not flower at all.

This fall, we did not prune them and we are wondering if the pruning influences the flowering in summer. Or perhaps it's the PH of the soil?

Are there steps we can take now to ensure beautiful blooms this spring/summer? FYI, we live in central New Jersey.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
Hi Helene
Hydrangas are not paticular about the soil they are in as long as the ph is right. weather conditions play a major part in the flowering part of this shrubs cycle. The soil ph should be about a 6.3 to 6.5 and the weather should be consistant not the rollercoaster type that has been prevalent. do a soil test and try a bloom booster if the ph is right and hope the weather cooperates.   Larry  ;-)
