Candy Corn Plan

Question
I was given a small candy corn plant in April; I re-potted it and put it outside in a larger pot; I then bought a rose trellis and she is going crazy!  Over 5 foot tall now.  What can I do to take care of her with the fall and horrible Iowa winter coming up?  Can I keep her safe until next spring???  Please let me know.  Lori

Answer
Hi Lori,

Manettia is a vining plant requires lots of bright light, high humidity, warm temps, and evenly moist soil to do well indoors. A south or west windowsill is best. Water thoroughly when the soil feels dry to the touch on the surface.

Keep potbound to help promote flowers. Fertilize regularly at half-strength when it is growing actively. Keep it well pruned to maintain fullness. Cuttings can be rooted in moist peat moist and perlite inside a clear plastic bag.

Because yours has been outside all summer, it will be difficult to acclimate it to indoor light, but it will have to go inside soon as it will not tolerate temps much below 55 degrees. Try to provide as much light as possible while it is indoors.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions. If you would like to e-mail some photos to my address below, I may be able to provide some additional insights.
