aleo vera house plant

Question
I have a aleo vera house plant that is getting very large. I water it every week and it is growing out of the pot. Is there a way to cut it back?

Answer
Debby,

No, you cannot cut it back. If you leave it in the pot it is in and stop watering it so much (you only need to water aloe plants every 2 weeks and they will grow much slower) it will send out side shoots. When the side shoots are at least 2 inches tall you can gently remove them from the parent plant and pot them in their own little pot and discard or give away the large one to a friend. Your other option is to repot the large one to a larger spectacular looking pot and make it a show piece in front of a sunny window in your home. Only water it every other week and it will slow it's growth and keep it healthier. Aloes are from the plains of South Africa and they are used to and need long dry spells and lots of sun. Good luck with yours.
