I bought a plant I don't know the name of, it's leaves are about 5 inches kinda dark green shiny and it's loosing it's leaves it's about 3 feet tall it's also getting new leaves but it's almost out of of the old ones the pot it's about a four gallon one there are some like roots above the soil and I water it about every week or so. please help me the plant was beautiful and I would very much like to save it

Answer
Jessie,

It is commonly known as a rubber tree, the latin name is ficus elastica. I suspect it needs more sun than it is getting. It loves th sun and would like to sit in front of a south facing window with the window covering open all day long. It also appears in your picture that the soil in the pot is very dry. This plant likes to dry out between waterings but it cannot be dry more than a day or so. If it is dry to long it starts to loose leaves. It cannot be too wet or the roots will rot but it also cannot be ept too light, it is a fine line between wet and dry. Good luck.
