Dieffenbachia, Reroot, Repot?

Question
Hi Samuel

I have inherited my mom's dieffenbachia tropic snow araceae.  I have not moved it from where she had it as we are living in her house now. It is almost 5 feet high. Leaves are healthy on the top 3rd. The bottom "stalk" has been propped up with sticks and leans on a empty tv cart. I want to move it and idealy repot it without the gangly stalk (which is about 1 to 1/12 inch thick). Is it possible cut it and re-root it in water??? I don't think it will stand straight on its onw. The top half curves to meet the top of the tv cart being tied with string. thanks for any help

Answer
Hi, this is a tricky question, but I can answer it if you are willing to be VERY VERY PATIENT, with the Dieffenbachia! You can cut the stalk off and cover the end with rooting hormone, and then plant it in soil, but it make take a VERY long time the re-root, but shouldn't die when waiting to re-root. You will need to by some Rooting Hormone Powder. When you apply the power to the bottom of the stalk you need to cover, the whole part of the stalk that will go under the soil. It may take years for it to re-root, or it may take weeks! If you have any other questions for me just ask a follow up or email me at, [email protected]. Don't forget to rate me.
Best Wishes,
Samuel
