Schflerra Dwarf

Question
I have a 21 year old Schflerra that used to be full and beautiful.  It is dropping leaves daily and looks leggy and quite bare, yet it is still growing new leaves at the top of the same stalk that is dropping most of the leaves.  I have been advised by friends to cut back this stalk but I am reluctant because it is the main stalk.   HELP.....I don't know what to do!!!
The plant is approx. 7 ft. high and in a 18 in pot that is 18 inches high.  I water it when the top inch or so is completely dry, and I water it with tea pot water that has been boiled.  It is in the same place that it has been for the 6 1/2 yrs. that we have lived here.  It gets bright indirect light.  What is causing this and what can I do it looks like it is on it's last leg.

Answer
Denise,

Let it get dryer between waterings and move it to where it will get direct sun. Schefflerras actually love the sun.  Open the drapes or blinds. Get it more sun and let it dry out a bi then it should strat sprouting some new growth. At that time pinch out the growing tip and it should force ti to grow side shoots lower in the plant. Good luck. If you have any questions feel free trop write again.
