potted orange tree

Question
I have inherited a potted orange tree it bears lots of fruit. Pot 8" dia. & 16" deep clay.  Tree 24" height - when I brought it in from outside it lost alot of leaves, it now has flowers and little green nubs of oranges starting. Do I trim off the bear branches, when & how. Thank you.  Mary

Answer
Mary,

Bend the bare branches,if they break easily they are dead and you can trim off the broken end. If it does not break be patient and wait for it to sprout new leaves. If it does not sprout new leaves by spring try pending it again and trim it if it breaks. I would carefully repott it into a clay 10" diameter pot in April but do not go to any larger pot or it will get larger than you can move in and out of your home. After that if it gets too large for that pot let me know and I will tell you how to prune it when it is not in bloom. Good luck.
