QUESTION: HI Tom,
A cut from a mulberry tree.

Answer
Hi Kim,
Thanx for the additional information.  The easiest way to prpagate a tree is by seed.  The seed germinate and grow readily.  You may even be able to find some seedlings in the yard near an established tree.  Another easy way is to take a branch that you can pull down to the ground, scrape the outer area of the branch about an inch long and then lay this section down in a hole about 3 inches deep and cover with dirt.  Place a stone on top to keep the branch anchored to the ground.  By fall, you will have a new tree and you can cut it off from the mother tree and replant wherever you like.  You can also take soft wood cuttings (green wood) about 6 inches long and dip in rooting hormone.  Stick the cuttings about 1 inch deep in warm, wet sand and keep the sand moist and warm.  Rooting should take place within 8 weeks.  When new leaves start growing the cutting is ready to transplant to a separate pot.  Cuttings and seeds should be started in the spring.  I hope this helps.
Tom
