Grape Ivy...

Question
Hi Darlene... I love house plants %26 have many that I have very little trouble with. My grape ivy is a different story all together. I've had it a little over a year %26 it is not doing so well. The leaves are quite faded %26 very droopy.. I've changed its location a few times according to light but it hasn't helped.. Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong with her?

Answer
Pam,

Grape ivy is a plant that can get a fungal disease called powdery mildew. It kind of looks like you dusted the plant with white powder. It happens to lilac bushes outdoors in the summer a lot. It will not kill the lilacs but it will your grape ivy. I suspect that is what you have.

You can go to a garden center and find a chemical fungal treatment but those tend to be difficult to use indoors. I have been successful at treating this exact problem on grape ivy with Lysol spray. Hold it at least 12 inches from the plant and spray it entirely making sure you get the fronts and backs of all leaves. Do this twice a week until you feel if is cured. Also move the plant to the sunniest location you have available and be very careful not to overwater it. If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck with your grape ivy.

Darlene
