Browning Ivy leaves

Question
Brown leaf
Brown leaf
I just noticed that some of the leaves of my Ivy are turning brown where the stem meets the leaf. Other leaves are turning light green when they should be dark green. New leaves are also smaller and really light green. What can cause this? I'm more worried about the leaves turning brown and than dying. Thank you.

Answer
Hi James,

A photo that shows the entire plant would be more helpful. A photo of a single leaf or symptom is not a great way to diagnose a plant problem. Without additional information, my educated guess is that the Hedera Ivy is suffering from root rot caused by over watering or over potting. However, I cannot rule out inadequate light and heat exposure either.

In general, indoor Hedera Ivies must be kept tightly potted in soil that drains easily; right in a sunny; with cool temps below 75 degrees. Allow the top half-inch to one inch of soil to dry in between waterings, assuming it is moderately potbound as it should be. Watch for spider mites.

I have written an article on Hedera Ivy care that I will email for free to you (or anyone else) who emails a request to me at [email protected].

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
