guzmania pup

Question

bromeliad.jpg, bromeli
My guzmania pup has a long thin hole in the middle of a brown spot on one of its leaves. It's still attached to its mom along with one other pup which appears to be fine. I'm wondering if it's some sort of disease- and if so, can I cut the leaf or pup off to save the mom & the other pup? Or is it just a lighting or watering problem?
I'm going to try to send you a couple pictures of the pup. I hope there's no problems with my images. I hardly ever send pics on the computer and I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. Hopefully there will be no problems. I thank you so much for your time.

Answer
Susan,

No, I do not believe that you have a disease or fungus.  I think the pup just got scraped or scratched as it was barely emerging. They are very easily damaged. It could also be the result of a watering problem. you have to be be careful with the watering on bromeliads. I recommend that you sit tight and jut watch it and e-mail me again if it appears to become a bigger problem but I do not believe that it will. Good luck.
