Guzmania

Question
Hello, I have a Guzmania that has been doing very well, but noticed its center cup appears to have a green powder inside.  The rest of the plant is very healthy, good color, but the center has that residual green powder.  Is this mold?  If so, how should I treat it?  I read I should be filling the cup with water, by not doing so is this causing a problem?  Please help as I do not want this potentially spreading to my other succulents and cacti.  Thank you.

Answer
Donny,

Is the powder loose? If so dump it out? Does it look like a mold that appears on bread? If so spray it with Lysol Spray. It will not hurt the plant and will kill mold. Spray it 2-3 times within a few hours then fill the cup with water as you are supposed to. If you knew you were supposed to why haven't you been doing that? It is definitely what this plant gets in it's natural environment and we need to duplicate a plants natural environment as closely as possible. Good luck.

Darlene
