split leaf philodendron sick

Question
I live in New Orleans and we just went through some extreme cold for this region. I have two very large split leaf philodendrons outside and they took the blast for almost a week. Now they are drooping and look lifeless. I am a novice so I don't know what to do :(  Do I cut off the leaves?(it's almost every one!) Or do I cut the stalk at the bas and hope for new growth? They are so beautiful and I don't want to lose them. Please help.

Answer
Nola,

Just cut each leaf off. Do not cut the stalk off unless it colappses, then just cut it back to the point that it is firm. Keep any leaves that are still green and healthy. It may look weird for awhile but hopefully they will send out new side shoots from the base then you can cut off the weird looking ones or theey may fill back in with new leaves. Good luck. You think you were cold! I'm in northern Indiana and we were really freezing. Down to nearly 0 degrees. But all my plants were indoors. We are more prepared. If it is any consolation I am getting lots of questions from folks in the south like you with damaged plants. I feel for you all and pray your plants come out of it and are more beautiful than ever.
