creeping fig..ficus pumila

Question
I purchased this plant 4 days ago, I transplanted it into 2 containers because it was too big for the one I intended it for. I watered it afterwords and have it in an East facing window. It looks awful, limp, and drying leaves. What can I do, can I save it before it's too late. It looked fine 4 days ago...wish I wouldn't have transplanted but too late for that. I am worried that the new container is too tight...Help??

Answer
Christine,

Ficus pumila hates to be divided. When the roots are damaged it reacts exactly like it has for you. You need to keep it in a very sunny location and do not overwater it. Empty the drain trays and do not water it until it has felt dry for 3 days. I guarantee that the new container is not too tight. If the new container does not have a drain hole with a drain tray under it then it will keep it too wet and the roots will rot. Make sure the curtains and blinds on the east window are open all day so it gets as much light as possible. Good luck.
