care of northfork pine

Question
I reacently bought two potted northfork pine trees and there are several growing in each pot do I evenually have to separate these out into other pots so they will grow better?

Answer
Hi Fugene,

Not only do you not have to separate the trees, it is actually much preferred that you do not. Contrary to conventional wisdom, the multiple plants in a pot do not crowd or hinder the growth of one another. However, if you attempt to separate them, you will do so much damage to the root systems that you risk losing all of the plants.

If the pot gets so crowded that it needs water every couple of days, then consider moving the plants together into a pot one size larger, but do not separate the plants.

I have written an article on Norfolk Island Pine care that I will email for free to anyone who sends a request to me at my address below.
