Norfolk Pine indoor

Question
I've had this Norfolk Pine for years and never repotted because someone told me they didn't like to be moved. It's 6' tall and over time has lost lower limbs, but lately that's increasing. I read that you don't fertilize them in winter. It's by a partial sun window and I've just put a humidifier under it. I bought a larger ceramic pot (unglazed interior) and have good potting soil. Shall I re-pot it, and how?
Thanks for your help,
Chris

By keeping them in the same pot for a long time you can slow their growth...Norfolk Island Pines will reach heights of 70-100 feet tall in the ground in their native areas...

They need a well lit room...They like morning sun...Using a humidifier is OK as long as you don't keep it directed at the plant...You could just spray the foliage a couple times a week with water in a spray mister...

They need to be fertilized during the growing seasons once or twice a year...Use a good indoor houeplant fertilizer like Peters, indoor Miracle grow, etc...Get to a local garden center (not chain store) and ask what they recommend for your plants...

You could repot it into a 2-3" larger plastic pot...Ceramic pots without drain holes can cause rotting problems...Remove the plant from the pot exposing the whole root system...Pull the wrapped around roots away from the rootballs as much as you can...Cut any roots that split or are too long...Place the rootball in your pot Put enough potting soil under the rootball to make the top of the soil 1" below the top  of the pot...Then pour potting soil around the root ball firming(tamping) it with your fingers as you go around the pot...Do this 2-3 times until the soil is firmly in place...

Water your plant based on how much it weighs when thoroughly watered VS when it is ready to be watered again. Plants die from too frequent waterings, not from how much water you give them at one time. Pick up or lean the pot and feel how heavy it is after watering it thoroughly. Don't water it again until it feels considerably lighter and the top of the soil is light in color...You can always poke your finger into the soil if you are not sure...Depending on plant types, sunlight exposure and pot size plants will need water at many different rates from once a day to once a month or more...

Place the plastic pot into the ceramic pot to make it easier to care for the plant...You need not repot Norfolk Island Pines often...Remove branches as they go yellow or brown...

Hope this helps.
