zygo christmas cactus(red flower)

Question
Zygo Christmas Cactus
Zygo Christmas Cactus
Had in 4" pot approx 2 yrs, repotted approx 6 mos ago to 6" pot. Just finished a flowering session April-May. Has always been inside by patio window except for a month around xmas when I moved to another room near some orchids. The catus was flowering at that time also. The new growth is purpleish. There are raised bumps only showing at this point on several leafs. Does not seem infested...yet. When you hold the leaf up to the light the bumps are kind of transparent. One of the leafs has a cluster of these.

Answer
Hi Becky,

I have not seen bumps similar to the ones in your photo. The purplish discoloration is a common reaction after flowering. I don't think the bumps are a disease and are definitely not pest related.

Are the discoloration and bumps occurring on all new growth?

My only concern would be the repotting that you did 6 months ago. A lot can go wrong when repotting is done unnecessarily or incorrectly, especially with a plant that has fragile roots. The larger pot and added soil dramatically increase the likelihood of root rot because the soil stays moist much longer. Root rot is insidious because it occurs very slowly and out of sight. I hope that is not the case with yours, but do be very careful with your watering.
