Zygo Cactus


Question
We have a Zygo cactus that is about 30 years old. We would like to transplant it. But not sure how to transplant it right now it's still in full bloom. Can you adivse on how to proceed with transplanting this beautiful plant. We are woried that we don't want to kill the plant.

I'm sorry, I did answer this question, don't know why it didn't go through.

I wouldn't transplant till finished flowering.  Zygos require soil containing rich, organic material.  They come from a climate that is humid and warm so their medium isn't typical cactus medium. The recommended growing medium is one part potting soil, two parts peat, and one part sand or perlite. It is very important to choose a pot that allows for proper drainage. Use a pot that is of appropriate size for the plant. These plants prefer to be root-bound rather than planted in a pot that is too large so I'd increase the size of the pot by two or three inches at most.

The other thing that you could do with this marvelous sounding plant is have a professional repot it, though, with two people you can do it yourselves. It seems you've taken good care of it so far!
