cutting ponytail plam

Question
i have a 12ft tall ponytail as a houseplant.the plant has three other stalks besides the main trunk.my question is,can the main trunk be cut at a point just above the three stalks to be more accomadating in the house.

Answer
James,

Of course it can! I would be tempted to cut it even lower. I would do this ASAP so it has plenty of longer days to sprout the new shoots before the days shorten.  It will send out several new shoots out the side of that trunk near where you cut it off. I would eliminate all but 1 or 2. They will grow quickly because it is such a large healthy plant. That is why I would cut it off about 10 to 12 9 inches below the other 3 stalks. It will soon shoot back above them especially if you eliminate it down to 1 new shoot off that main trunk. I don't need to give you care instructions because you have obviously been doing quite well with this plant. Congratulations! Feel free to write again if you have more questions about this or any other plants. Good luck!

Darlene
