Tree cutting

Question
I had a small Silver Maple cut down, and its now growing new shoots out of the trunk.  Does that mean the main trunk is still growing under the ground?  If so, how do I kill it.  The same with Mulberry Trees.  I have them every where and I cut them down and the next year they come up twice as big.

Answer
The root system is still alive. In hardwoods they will sprout back from the roots. Spray Roundup herbicide on the new sprouts, the Roundup will be transported into the root system killing the rots. Make sure you do not spray anything not wanted to be killed since Roundup will kill any green plant if it gets on the leaves.
