ginseng build-up??

Question
Karen,
Hello, I am a 48 year old woman and I have taken 820 mg twice a day of Siberian Ginseng for the last 2 years.
Last summer I started having balance problems and a lot of headaches. I underwent a lot of medical tests which they determined was "severe vertigo". At that time I WAS taking a Mannatech herbal metabolism increasing tab too but I stopped that, but continued taking ginseng.
I still had some dizziness and was "prescribed" some exercises to do which helped some what. But lately I got to thinking maybe I should stop the ginseng too. I also take a multi-vitamin.
It has been a week now since I stopped the ginseng and I am now feeling MUCH better! I do find myself a little dizzy when I get over tired but not like I was.
So my question is....could I have had too much ginseng build-up in my system?? And were these the symptons?? What if anything would have happened to me?

Answer
Dear Mary,

The symptoms that you described are common when taking too much Ginseng.  Headaches and dizziness are the two most common symptoms.  These symptoms are simply the body's way of signaling that it doesn't need anymore.

If I may be of further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best Regards,
Karen
