Hornworm

Question
I took it off the plant, what should I do with it? Also, are there more or does the moth just lay one egg on each plant. It is a cool catapillar though.

Question -
Mike,

I found this catapillar on my tomato plant. It scared me at first because of its size and the only reason I found it was because it was moving. I did not know what it was until I came to this site. You had answered a question for a guy that was from Michigan. I am also from Michigan. Thank you for answering his question which answered mine. I will do what you suggest as a chemical to keep these off my tomato plants. Thanks again.

Bill, I'm glad I could help.

Good luck the rest of the growing season.

Answer
Just drop it in soapy water or move it out of the yard completely.  It's hard to say how many you have.  A moth usually lays more than one egg, but most of the larvae die before they mature.  I would just continue to watch closely for them, apply BT to control them, and remove them when you see them.  Large infestations are very rare.

Take care.

Mike
