English Ivy

Question
Purchased in hanging baskets about 6 wks ago - took it out & planted in area in front of my house as I wanted it as a ground cover - Looked great for awhile & I could tell it was growing & spreading ---- then I noticed that the leaves on top were turning brown & dying (on 2 plants)- I thought Ivy was supposed to be very easy to grow & that most people don't like it because it just takes over - which is what I want it to do - I am so disappointed as each hanging basket was $30.00 & I bought 5 -it does get the sun (I thought it was supposed to) Is there anything I can do to save what is left?  Thank you, Nancy

Answer
The plants could be going through transplant shock.  This would cause the brown and dying leaves as the plant tries to compensate for coming from the pot and then into the ground.  The high temperatures as of late would be a likely cause of this situation as well.  Keep watered during periods of dry weather.  If you can get them over the hump of transplant shock, they should take off running.  They may not do a lot this year, but next year expect great things.  Good Luck.
