sundew seeds

Question
I have a drosera prolifera growing in my terrarium. It is producing a small flower. Can I leave the flower on, will it stunt the plant growth. (I bought it from you several month ago )
Also how do I go about propagating these seeds ?
                                 Thanks - Ken

Answer
Hi Ken,

Leave the flower stalks.  It won't stunt your plant in anyway.  In fact, you can use the flower stalks to propagate more plants!

Simply cut the flower stalks into 1-inch chunks and lay it firmly on the soil.  Within a few weeks, plantlets will form.  It sounds wild, but this is how the plant self-propagates.  It does so by creating new plantlets on the flower stalks!

To get seeds, you will need to use pollen from another plant that is genetically unrelated.  As to date, we don't know of anyone who has successfully produced seeds from this species.

Good growing!
