Sarracenia Identification Help

Question

unknown Sarracenia
Could you please help me identify this Sarracenia. I have had it for about 3 year, and it is blooming right now. Should I repot it next year to a larger pot?
THANKS Always,
Dennis H

Answer
Hi Dennis,

You have a very nice plant there!  It looks like one of the cultivar hybrids that were massed produced several years ago.  It's not a registered hybrid, but my guess is that it is Sarracenia rubra x purpurea or even S. alata x purpurea.

Yes, definitely transplant it into a larger pot, one that will accommodate its root mass and rhizome.  Use a 6-inch pot or larger.  For the soil, use a mix of 1 part peat moss and 1 part perlite.  Trim off the older leaves from last season, generally any leaf that's turning brown at the tip.

Good growing!
