so-called distilled water

Question
Greetings Again!

I'm trying to decide which bottled water to buy for CPs. Drinking water, distilled water, processed water, et al is available. One claims to be a product of Reverse Osmosis.

My question is, which type water should I use for VFTs and Picher Plants, and can I trust the label? These are Wal-Mart and Dollar General products.

I'm searching for a Reverse Osmosis kitchen unit that is self-contained and does require a water line to be left open to supply the system, since the home where I will utilize the system is a vacation home that is not continuously occupied so as to oversee any malfuntion.

I am getting very enthusiastic about creating a large bog garden soon, so Stand By for a BIG order soon!

Answer
Hi Ron,

Go for either distilled, or the water purified by reverse osmosis.  Stuff labeled as drinking water can be quite variable if it is spring water etc...  Distilled and R.O. water will have a very low mineral content, and that is what you're looking for.

If you are only looking for small quantities of purified water a table top distiller might be the best option.  Most R.O. units work best if they are used some each day.  With both of these just do an internet search.  Hundreds of units are available.  If you were to do a reverse osmosis unit, however, there's one that I can't recommend enough.  It's the GE Merlin.  It's the one we use here at the nursery, and it can crank out 700 gallons a day.  Most home units are closer to 25 gallons a day.  The Merlin is made to be an on-demand unit, so it doesn't need a tank.  Here's a link:  http://www.rosystems.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RSI&Product_Cod...

Good Growing!
