mini bog

Question
Hello! Up until now i have grown all my carnivorous plants in individual
plastic pots and they have all grown well for me. This coming season though,
I wanted to make a mini bog with a few of my young venus flytrap(1-2 years
old) and some of my younger pitcher plants(2-3 years old). I have a few
plastic containers that I am planning on using. They have a diameter of 20
inches and are about 6.5-7 inches deep. Are these containers any good?
Since all the plants i'll be using are pretty young, i figured it would be fine.
What would be the best mix and should i keep them undrained or make holes
on them to make it so it drains? I read somewhere that undrained containers
should have an equal mix of peat and sand or peat and pumice. If i drill holes
can i make it a peat and perlite mix? What do you guys prefer? What would
you recommend? Thanks in advance for all the help and advice!

Answer
Hi Manuel,

Your containers sound great.  Definitely put holes in the bottom for drainage.  A big container may not need a water reservoir if you are good about watering during hot weather.  Otherwise try and get some kind of tray underneath them for water.  Also, any of the soil mixes would be fine, but I would lean towards peat/pumice for these.  The pumice is heavier and won't wash out as fast when you top water the pots.

Good Growing!
