establishing a bog

Question
I have a number of Sarracenia's, fly traps, etc. and I want to establish a bog.  Would the plants do OK if I plant them directly into the peat/pearlite mix w/o pots?

Answer
Hi Bruce,

Yes!  An in-ground bog garden is essentially a big pot.  So whether you use pots or a large liner for a bog garden, the soil mix is the same.  Because of the size of the bog garden, you can also use silica sand rather than perlite.  The advantage of silica sand over perlite in this case is cost since you're going to be making a lot of soil.
