Should I spray only the crown of my sarracenia with a water based insecticide, because this is the only affected area with aphid damage.

Hi Ted,

Yes, spray the crown.  There's no need to saturate the soil.  Also spray any leaf tips affected.  I usually just cut off damaged shoots since they won't develop normally.
