VFT deformities

Question

Once, so good looking.
Hi Jacob and/or Jeff. This question puzzles me greatly. All of my VFT are experiencing a dramatic slow in growth, and deformities in the leaves, (mainly the traps). I estimate that this started to occur when I started using Neem II on my plants, including the VFTs. All new growth also shows considerable size difference, which should not happen normally. My theory is that I sprayed too often, or the insecticide penetrated into the soil, and furthermore, on and into the roots. I decided to just repot into fresh soil media, and not use the stuff anymore. Also insect damage has been decreasing throughout the month. Any advice, or correction would gladly be appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Ted,

This is a peculiar appearance.  Repotting was a good idea.  To much of the Neem could have caused damage like this.  You'll just need to give them time now.  Also, do a little top watering.  This will help flush out impurities.

I can also now recommend a different systemic insecticide that may have less phytoxicity.  The Bayer products that contain imicloprid work well, and have caused no plant damage.  You can get premixed sprays usually labled for roses.  This is the same compound used in Advantage for dogs to kill fleas.  It has almost no odor.  When you use it just spray the crown of the plant.  I try not to get too heavy-handed with insecticides for just the reason you have experienced.

Good Growing!
