nep maxima

Question
i repotted a few of my asian pitchers this week, and much to my dismay, i broke off a healthy root of my Nep Maxima that was about 3 inches long and has a nice "branching" cluster at the bottom.   I was horrified and am making an attempt to save the root and hoping to get some kind of root cutting (although it was by accident) going....   and i'm not exactly sure how to do this...  I surrounded the root with long fiber spag moss, and put it in a 4 inch pot, placed it beneath my 40 watt grow light, and have it sitting in a little bit of water....   my question is this,   is more moisture going to help the roots survive?  or should i just keep the moss moist and not have it sitting in an inch of water? should i play around with a SMALL amount of diluted fertilizer?  or should i just keep my fingers crossed?  ha ha

Answer
Hi Darren,

The plant itself will recover.  Give it a dose of SuperThrive? 1 teaspoon per gallon of water.  This will help it regenerate more roots.  As for the broken root, chuck it.  Unlike Cephalotus and Drosera, Nepethes don't propagate from root cuttings.

Good growing!
