Unhealthy and wilting pinguicula moctezuma

Question
I purchased a punguicula moctezuma from predatory plants last fall. It arrived healthy and with a big purple flower. I potted it immediately in a mixture of approximately 2 parts peat and 1 part perlite. It did fine for the first couple months and has flowered non stop but recently its leaves has been smaller and are brown at the tips. It still flowers but I was wondering, is the brown tips normal? Could it be going dormant? I cut off its latest flower in an attempt to save it some energy.

Answer
Hi Jared,

If your plant has been growing well up until now, it may be going dormant.  I have one in my kitchen window right now that's doing the same thing.  It's still blooming, but the leaves are getting smaller.

Make sure you are keeping the soil damp, but not waterlogged (African Violet pots work very well for this).  If it goes dormant, you'll see a tight mass of tiny leaves in the center of the plant.  When it gets to this stage, keep the soil just barely moist.  Later in the winter it will begin growing again, so then you can resume normal watering.

Good Growing!
