New in the hobby - living in the tropics(follow up)

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I'm new to this hobby and before I make a commitment to buy plants and seeds I need some data. I live in the tropics, Puerto  Rico to be exact. What kind of plants and seeds would you recommend to grow in this area? You have a great site and I would like to get the feeling into what I need to do from professionals to avoid disappointment. Thanks!!!!

ANSWER: You definitely have the right attitude.  It's always best to learn how to care for these plants before diving into them.  The best plants to get are those that grow best for your particular growing conditions.  Since I don't know much about your home, you will need to do some homework on your part.

First, use the feature on our website for first-time growers.  Answer a few short questions about your growing conditions, and you will get a list of plants that will grow best for you.

Second, read the care guides for the type of plants that you want to grow.  This will give you an idea of what you will need to do both short-term and long-term.

I also recommend that you start with adult plants rather than with seeds.  Carnivorous plants in general grow very slowly when compared to regular plants.  Some seeds also require special treatment to germinate.  Seedlings are also very temperamental and can remain small for many years before their growth spurt.  You'll have more enjoyment growing adult plants than seedlings.

Good growing!

QUESTION: Hi, thanks for your response. I already have seeds for Venus flytrap plants, different kinds (Typical, Cupped Trap, Green, Red Dragon, Red Purple), Drosera Aliciae, Drosera Burkeana, Drosera Capensis, Sarracenia Flora, Darlingtona Californica, and some other mixes. I will follow your advise and order some adult plants a well as appropriate soil mix from your site.
Here in San Sebastian our average temperatures are about 65F to 91F, plenty of rain, about 6-8 inches per month, higher during storm season July ~ September). Hope this helps!!!
Thanks!!!

P.S. These plants are almost unknown of in Puerto Rico, we do have some species that live mainly underwater in swamps.

Answer
Definitely use the feature for first-time growers on our website and read our care guides.  Your success with these plants depends heavily on the type of sunlight you can provide in your home and garden.  All of the tropical carnivorous plants should grow well for you if you can meet their light requirements.  The plants for sale on our site also provides brief information about their preferred growing conditions.
