rooting peices of cactus

Question
help !

Is it possible to root peices of a cactus, my aunt has some small cactus plants, i want a peice so so bad how can she break me a peice . my aunts cactus have little flowers on them.
Help help !

Answer
Dear Saundra,

Yes you can break a piece off and plant it. However, if it is a Euphorbia and not a cactus, you have to be very careful as Euphorbias are very poisonous which makes them very dangerous to work with. Before you start cutting off a piece, either send me a picture of the plant to: [email protected] or have someone identify the plant at a local nursery for you.

If it is a cactus, let it heal for at least a couple of weeks prior to replanting. Only water it when the soil is dry and be patient, as it will take a month or so to root. Good luck.

Sincerely,

Greg
