help with opuntia

Question
Hi... i am having a problem with my Opuntia cactus. I hope you might be able to help me with my beloved cactus. I erroneously overwatered it
and now the ears are sagging. I already had to remove part of the root of one ear. Is there any way to save this treasured cactus?

Thanks in advance!

Answer
Dear Lucas,

Possibly. If there is no rot present, but there is root damage, remove the plant from the soil and let it dry for a week or so. Get some new soil and replant. If there is rot present, as long as the "ears" are at least 50% of the size of the pad they are growing from, you should be able to root them. Same process as above.

In either case, keep the plant out of direct sunlight as it is already stressed. Water only when the soil is dry and you can use a product called "Superthrive" which is great in transplanting situations. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
